Drinking a moderate amount of alcohol, as part of a healthy and balanced diet increases your state of health.

Red wine is good for you

Drinking red wine moderately (150ml per day) and as part of a healthy balanced diet (including the wine in your calorie budget) moderately increases your state of health.

White wine is also good for you (but not as good as red wine)

Drinking white wine moderately (150ml per day) and as part of a healthy balanced diet (including the wine in your calorie budget) moderately increases your state of health.

The study also found that: “sleep quality improved in both wine groups compared with the water group”

Alcohol plays an important role in metabolising glucose, and both the groups consuming white and red wine showed measurable health improvements. The red wine group also saw additional health improvements and markedly improved metabolic function.

Although the results of the study applies to all persons, specifically people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes were studied and after two years the alcohol groups showed marked moderate health improvements over the water groups.

The formal conclusion of the study is: This long-term RCT suggests that initiating moderate wine intake, especially red wine, among well-controlled diabetics as part of a healthy diet is apparently safe and modestly decreases cardiometabolic risk. The genetic interactions suggest that ethanol plays an important role in glucose metabolism, and red wine’s effects also involve nonalcoholic constituents. [1]
